There were a couple beautiful Bosc pears staring me down at the supermarket last weekend., so I picked them up to make some Caramelized Pears for dessert. A simple and easy to do dish that I adapted from Martha Stewart - here's how to go about it
Halve these bad boys lengthwise. Pears are just so pretty, aren't they?
Scoop out the middle portion with seeds - I just used a regular teaspoon because I don't have any fancy fruit scoopy things yet
Coat each cut half with sugar, which I did by just pouring sugar onto a small plate and pressing each half into it.
Place the pears cut side down in a skillet preheated over medium heat and cook for roughly 10 minutes, or until they begin to brown
Add 1/2 cup of water to skillet, cover and continue to simmer for another 10-15 minutes or until pears are tender. Add more water if the sugar starts to burn. Remove pears when tender.
Continue to simmer liquid until thickened into a sauce, which you'll pour over the pears before you serve.
Voila!!!! You have Caramelized Bosc Pears!

Those look awesome. One of my friends does this kind of thing all the time, but I've never gotten around to trying it myself. Anything with the word "caramelized" always grabs my interest though. :)
