Sexy Wizards Get Me Every Time

Have I mentioned I'm kinda a nerd? I love science fiction and horror novels. L-O-V-E them.
The kinds with magic, and vampires, werewolves and faeries. My favorite being The Harry Dresden series by Jim Butcher. Most of my friends have never picked up the book which I don't get - it's fantastic.

Harry Dresden is this wise cracking, surly and somewhat hot, ass-kicking wizard working out of Chicago. He kills big, bad, supernatural beasties and whatnot. In a really surly, somewhat hot, ass-kicking way.

You should pick it up.

Anyhoo, when I found out that the author, Mr. Butcher would be making an appearance at Joseph-Beth Booksellers in Lexington, KY I was over the top! I called the store immediately and ordered Mister and I a copy of his latest Harry Dresden book, Ghost Story.

We drove over to see him last Saturday.

Joseph Beth is an independent book store (which I'm all about supporting, people!!!) - but I was still shocked when I saw how big it was. This is only a quarter of the store!

These are my people. Soak them in. :)

Mr. Butcher himself was as cool as a cucumber - much to my surprise. He was quick on his feet too. There were some pretty dedicated fans there that were putting him through the ringer with the storyline questions. He was funny and witty - very entertaining to listen too. When Mister and I left we both agreed that he reminded us of Kevin Smith. This is in no way meant as an insult. He just sort of looked like him, talked like him, and was very funny and opinionated, just like him.

See? He kiiiiiiiinda resembles him....

The place was packed and there were people jammed into all corners of the store. I staked out a little place by the Buddhism section and parked it. We didn't stay to get our book signed though because there were literally a couple hundred people ahead of us, and it seemed like each one brought their entire collection of Jim Butcher books for him to sign. But I was content to just see him and hear him speak.

See? I'm smiling...in kind of a sweaty, I'm tired of standing way...but I'm smiling. :)

'til next time...

  2. I'm jealous all the way around. That bookstore looks amazing and I really want his "Go away, I have a deadline." shirt! I haven't read these, but I'm definitely putting them on my reading list. Thanks for the recommendation!
