Mobee Floats Now!

Today was a great day, aside from getting eaten alive by mosquitoes.

Mobee finally learned to swim! I've been trying to teach him for years, but he's got it now!

Here's a picture of one of the few times Mobee got to the tennis ball first.

There was some evening fishing at the pond, followed by a spectacular sunset.

Around midnight we decided to take a drive. We came across a clutch of baby killdeer huddled around their dead mother in the middle of the road.

We'd almost hit them with our car, and there were tons of bats swooping around, so we picked them up hoping a papa bird would be back to get them. After a while of sitting on the side of the road with our little guys in a plastic tote chirping their heads off, papa finally returned and they were happily reunited. Sadly enough to start their one parent family.

I can't wait to see what kind of critters we come across tomorrow....

Bugs, Bugs, and More Bugs!

Needless to say, I am not a big fan of bugs, and Indiana is making me squeal like a little girl. They have everything we do, but they also have one that's ten times bigger. Take this fly for example.

The one on the right is your common household fly that we see every day in California. They have these in Indiana also. The one on the left is a horse fly from Indiana. These things bite. Hard. Many men run when they see these things coming. I am a mighty warrior and I killed this one before you.

One little thing I was hoping someone might be able to help me with. No one can seem to figure out what kind of cocoon this is.

Does anyone have any idea what it might be?

*UPDATE: Discovered that this is a Bagworm Moth Cocoon.

'til next time...

We're Going on Vaaacaaaation!

It's about time too! We've just been sitting around the house this summer (all eight days of it)and figured, no better time to make a road trip to Indiana happen! We're going to Mister's family farm in Indiana, and then to visit my grandparents at their ranch in Oklahoma. I should probably call grandma and let her know.

The dogs are all packed. The four of us will be camping in the Jelly Roll (my Scion).

Let the good time roll.....

p.s. Pics will of course follow, but for right now I've lost my camera cord....alas
